Greener Shipping

Greener Shipping

Bonjour wine fans,

We have one earth and we would like to do our part to help keep it healthy and sustainable. We see all the time in the wine industry that companies use polystyrene (Styrofoam) shipping inserts to ship wine, which is down right awful for the environment. We have decided to use pulp shipping inserts for majority of our wine shipments. These pulp wine inserts are by far the most green friendly because not only are they very biodegradable but they are made from recycled paper. Unfortunately they are not the strongest shipping inserts available. We will use polystyrene shippers, which are the strongest, only when the wine we ship is either very expensive, rare, or has a very long or rough journey to take. We only expect to use Styrofoam inserts for less than 10% of our shipments, but we are on the search for a suitable replacement. Here is a overview of the most common wine shippers that we have used:

Polystyrene Shippers

  • Very strong with best crush and drop protection
  • Provides insulating protection from temperature changes
  • Immune to moisture and liquids
  • Hard to recycle
  • Non biodegradable
  • Made from carcinogens
  • Manufacturing process is toxic and polluting
  • Broken down particles are harmful to animals

Pulp Shippers

  • Medium strength with acceptable crush and drop protection
  • Minimal insulating protection from temperature changes
  • Susceptible to moisture and liquid damage
  • Easy to recycle
  • Very biodegradable
  • Made from recycled paper

The diversity of Chardonnay is quite impressive, no wonder it is one of the most popular grapes grown in the world. There is something for everyone whether you prefer a light and zesty white wine or a big buttery oaked Chardonnay, or even a classic sparkling wine.

        The Best White Wine Glasses

The shape of the wine glass plays an important role in how we experience wine. That makes choosing the right wine glass the first step toward enjoying a new bottle. Overall, white wine glasses tend to have smaller bowls than those for reds. This helps keep the temperature low and preserve the aromas of the wine. There’s a shorter distance from the wine to your nose, as well, to make sure you don’t miss the subtler notes. The best white wine glasses are also stemmed, since holding the glass at the bowl will raise the wine temperature as you drink. Here are seven of our favorite sets of white wine glasses.
