February – that time of year when the weather insists on staying cold and dreary, yet the grand majority of us are ready for warm sunshine. During the holidays, sitting by the fire with a piping hot glass of mulled wine sounds so appealing, but what do us wine drinkers do to get us through this last stretch of winter, when admittedly we’ve got outdoor patio sipping on our minds?

Petit Verdot, I tell you! This bold red has a nice warming quality to it, yet its fruit-forward jammy flavors make it incredibly refreshing at the same time. If you haven’t tried a local Petit Verdot, now is the perfect time.

Sunset Hills Vineyard in Purcellville, VA has been toying with Petit Verdot for a while and is doing a fantastic job. While anyone can enjoy this varietal in the standard tasting menu, the winery is also now offering club members a Petit Verdot flight in their exclusive Barrel Room in the basement. The flight showcases their 2013, 2014, and 2015 vintages.

The space is adorably decorated – the perfect ambience for quality conversation over oven-fresh bread and a glass of your favorite wine.  Winery goers can also order spreads (such as roasted red pepper & artichoke) and artisan cheeses, presented in a cute little picnic style basket.

Next time you are looking for a new DC area wine adventure, add Sunset Hills to your to-do list. Between the live music, great food, wide variety of wines, and the ample space and parking, this is an easy way to have a great day.

Breaking The Rules, One Pinot Nero Blanco at a Time

April 24, 2019

Life is full of old school rules that quite frankly ought to be broken. Is the phrase “don’t wear white after Labor Day” ringing any bells? Well, I’ve got a particular rule in question that really grinds my gears. We’ve all heard time and time again that steak should only be accompanied by a red wine. While I’m not exactly a consistent rule-breaker, when it comes to something like this I’m totally game.

A Perfect Purr-secco

April 17, 2019

Maybe it was the meow-ing of her cats that brought us the realization that this prosecco was more aptly dubbed a Purr-secco. From then on, we couldn’t stop our giggling and knew we had to drink our wine with that night’s dinner.
