The Château Gloria 2016 is a Saint-Julien with remarkable precision, resulting from both savoir-faire and the the technical benefits of their newly rebuilt cellars, including the harvest reception area and the new vat room. These new developments allowed the estate to make more precise parcel selections and therefore a more precise vinification. The 2016 Gloria blends 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot and 7% Cabernet Franc, all harvested between September 29th and October 17th.
It offers a beautiful, very purple-tinged colour with blue undertones. The nose is richly aromatic with dense black fruits notes with a touch of minerality (graphite). On the palate, this Saint-Julien shows lively and refreshing acidity, with a mid-palate of juicy fruits. The ripe tannins are well-integrated and firm, but very ripe. The finish is long and satisfying. This wine can be kept for 12 to 15 years, or even longer. Gloria 2016 is a success!
Cabernet Sauvignon is a red grape varietal known for its thick, durable skin, and the vine’s resistance to the elements. After the birth of the grape, the Cabernet Sauvignon varietal began to be adopted in parts of France by winemakers searching for more durable plants that were relatively easy to grow, and the grape found its champion in the region of Bordeaux.
Merlot is a dark blue-colored wine grape variety, that is used as both a blending grape and for varietal wines. Merlot grapes are identified by their loose bunches of large berries. The color has less of a blue/black hue than Cabernet Sauvignon grapes and with a thinner skin and fewer tannins per unit volume. Merlot grapes tend to have a higher sugar content and lower malic acid.

The Bordeaux wine region is centered on the city of Bordeaux, on the Garonne River. To the north of the city the Dordogne River joins the Garonne forming the broad estuary called the Gironde and covering the whole area of the Gironde department with a total vineyard area of over 120,000 hectares, making it the largest wine growing area in France. Average vintages produce over 700 million bottles of Bordeaux wine, ranging from large quantities of everyday table wine, to some of the most expensive and prestigious wines in the world. The vast majority of wine produced in Bordeaux is red, with sweet white wines (most notably Sauternes), dry whites, and (in much smaller quantities) rosé and sparkling wines collectively making up the remainder. Bordeaux wine is made by around 8,000 producers or châteaux. There are around 60 appellations of Bordeaux wine.
