The traditional Château Sénéjac wines are mostly characterized by their deep color, intensity and fine tannins. The 2014 vintage gained subtle delicateness and precision while keeping its style. Château Sénéjac 2014 is Petit Verdot variety oriented even if the majority of the blend is made of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The first fragrances are spicy thanks to the mature Petit Verdot. Swirling reveals the subtle roasting notes due to the ageing in oak barrels and intense aromas of fresh black fruits. This Haut-Médoc has a great tannic body which is very round on the finish.
This beautiful ancient baronial estate dates back to the 1500s. A succession of noble owners have run the property, the most recent being the Count de Guigne. The Rustmann family, with ties to Château Talbot, purchased the property in 1999 and has vowed to make one of the region’s best wines. They have installed state-of-the art winemaking equipment and a strictly select of only the finest grapes in the vineyard, which contributes to a greatly improved wine. Classified as a Cru Bourgeois Supérieur in the 2003 classification, this is a property to seek out for value and quality. Château Sénéjac was named “One of the 50 estates that deserve special attention” by the Wine Spectator in 2008, this estate, under the direction of the Rustmann family, is one of the top estates of the Haut-Médoc.
Cabernet Sauvignon is a red grape varietal known for its thick, durable skin, and the vine’s resistance to the elements. After the birth of the grape, the Cabernet Sauvignon varietal began to be adopted in parts of France by winemakers searching for more durable plants that were relatively easy to grow, and the grape found its champion in the region of Bordeaux.
Merlot is a dark blue-colored wine grape variety, that is used as both a blending grape and for varietal wines. Merlot grapes are identified by their loose bunches of large berries. The color has less of a blue/black hue than Cabernet Sauvignon grapes and with a thinner skin and fewer tannins per unit volume. Merlot grapes tend to have a higher sugar content and lower malic acid.
